2017 MAAC LifeStorage Baseball Championship Set to Begin Wednesday

No. 3 Canisius College vs. No. 6 Rider University – May 24 (12:00 p.m.):
· No. 3 Canisius College (34-20, 16-8 MAAC) swept No. 6 Rider University (23-26-1, 12-12 MAAC) in a three-game series during the regular season.

o April 23 – Canisius 9, Rider 0
· The three-game sweep of the Broncs marked one of two sweeps against MAAC opponents for the Griffs this season (swept Iona College, May 6-7).
· Offensively, Canisius leads the MAAC in on-base percentage (.381), runs scored (307), RBI (268), triples (19), walks (238), and hit by pitches (76). The Griffs rank second in hitting (.276), tied for fourth in slugging percentage (.376), second in total hits (482), and second in stolen bases (68).
· On the mound, the Griffs lead the league in innings pitched (460.2), strikeouts (393), wins (34), and saves (16).
· The Broncs enter the 2017 MAAC LifeStorage Baseball Championship on a four-game winning streak and are winners of five out of their last six games.
· Rider ranks fourth in the conference in doubles (83), third in triples (11), and fifth in home runs (25). Broncs' pitching is fourth in innings pitched (416.0) and fifth in wins (23).
No. 4 Iona College vs. No. 5 Manhattan College – May 24 (3:30 p.m.):
· No. 4 Iona College (21-24, 14-10 MAAC) took two out of three games this season against No. 5 Manhattan College (18-33, 12-12 MAAC).

· Iona clinched a berth in the MAAC Baseball Championship for the first time since 2000.
· Manhattan has qualified for the MAAC Baseball Championship two out of the last three seasons (2014 & 2016).
· The Gaels are tied for fourth in the league in triples (nine) and are fourth in walks (196). On the mound, they are fourth in ERA (4.31), fourth in opposing batting average (.264), tied for fourth in saves (10), tied for the fewest hits allowed (375), tied for second with the fewest runs allowed (227), have allowed the second-fewest earned runs (178), have walked the second-fewest batters (154), and surrendered the second-fewest home runs (21).
· The Jaspers rank fourth in the MAAC in hits (439), second in doubles (88), and second in triples (15). Manhattan pitching is tied for the third-most strikeouts (362), leads the league in pick offs (15), and has allowed the third-fewest home runs (26).
No. 1 Fairfield University:
· For the second-straight season Fairfield University has claimed the MAAC Baseball Regular Season Championship. The Stags finished the regular season with a (30-22, 17-7 MAAC) record and the No. 1 overall seed in the Championship.
· Fairfield won the 2016 MAAC Baseball Championship, with an, 18-2, defeat of Siena College at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY.
· The Stags take on the winner of game one or two (Lower Seed) at 7:00 p.m. live on MAAC.TV.
· Fairfield leads the league in hitting (.288) and hits (500). Stags' pitching ranks atop the conference in ERA (3.77), K/BB ratio (2.54), WHIP (1.34), and have walked the fewest batters (131).
· The Stags are second in the MAAC in runs scored (289), RBI (259), fourth in home runs (26), fifth in stolen bases (57), tied for fourth in slugging percentage (.376), and fourth in on-base percentage (.364).
No. 2 Marist College:
· Marist College finished the 2017 regular season (29-21, 16-8 MAAC). The Red Foxes enter the Championship (10-3) in their last 13 games and won six in a row from April 29-May 6.
· Marist clinched a berth in the MAAC Baseball Championship for its third-straight season.
· The Red Foxes play the winner of game one or two (higher seed) on Thursday, May 25 at 12:00 p.m. on MAAC.TV.
· Marist ranked third in the league in hitting (.274), second in on-base percentage (.371), fourth in runs scored (279), fifth in RBI (236), and second in walks (212).
· Red Foxes' pitching was second in the MAAC in ERA (3.90), second in strikeouts (374), third in wins (27), and tied for fourth in saves (10). They tied for the conference-lead in fewest hits allowed (375), surrendered the fewest runs (198), and earned runs (172).
History by seed:
· Since the MAAC went the six-team championship format in 2014 a No. 5 seed and a No. 6 seed has never made an appearance in a Championship final.
· The last No. 4 seed to appear in the Championship round was Siena in 2015. The last No. 4 seed to win the MAAC Baseball Championship was Rider in 2008.
· Canisius was the last No. 3 seed to appear in a MAAC Championship final and was able to capture the title in 2013.
· The last No. 2 seed to appear in the Championship round was Siena in 2016 and the last No. 2 seed to win it all was Canisius in 2015.
· As the No. 1 seed, Fairfield claimed the 2016 MAAC Championship.

· The 2017 MAAC LifeStorage Baseball Championship takes place at Sal Maglie Stadium hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University from May 24-28.
· The Championship is a double elimination style tournament. If the team coming out of the loser's bracket defeats the team in the winners' bracket, the if necessary game takes place on Saturday, May 27 at 3:30 p.m.
