Monmouth University Men & Women both hold leads after Day One of the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Lawrenceville, NJ – Both the Men's team and Women's team from Monmouth University hold the lead after day one of competition at the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.
The Monmouth University Men currently have a total of 58 points. Mark Orlando of Monmouth took first place in the Men's Javelin Throw with a mark of 61.55m. Overall, the Hawks collected 16 points in the event. Shortly after, the Hawks collected 13 more points in the Long Jump led by second place finisher Harrison Bickmore with a mark of 7.10m. In the Weight Throw, Monmouth took two out of the top three positions to finish with 19 points.
In second place with 54 points is Manhattan College. Hayden Clarke of Manhattan took first place in the Men's Long Jump with a mark of 7.44m as Manhattan collected 21 points from the event. Shortly after, Love Litzell of Manhattan took first place in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 62.24m.
Iona Gaels Men, currently in third place, collected wins in the 3000m Steeplechase and 10000m. Johannes Motschmann finished the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 30:19.30 and Iona took the top two spots in the 10000m with Kiernan Clements finishing first and Gilbert Kirui coming in first.
The Monmouth Women got out to an early lead when they took first & third in the Hammer Throw with Kennisha Okereke finishing with a mark of 53.29m and Alicia Hester finishing with a mark of 52.89m. They then totaled 13 points in both the Long Jump & Pole Vault, while also taking the top two marks in the Javelin Throw with Faith Blamon taking first and Stephanie Roones finishing second. The Hawks finished the day with a total of 80 points with Rider University in second place with 41 points. Asia Young from Rider took first place in the Women's Long Jump with a mark of 5.98m.
Iona College Women collected two wins on the day in the 3000m Steeplechase and 10000m. Rachel Garn took first in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:33.28 and Cassandra Gill took first in the 10000m with a time of 35:50.49. Jessica Lee from Quinnipiac continued her impressive season with a record setting performance in the Women's 100m Hurdles trails with a time of 13.77. Marisa Robbins broke her own championship record set in 2015 with a mark of 3.85m in the Pole Vault finals.
