Monmouth University Men Claim Their Fourth Straight MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship
Lawrenceville, NJ – The Monmouth Hawks Men's Team captured their fourth straight Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. The Hawks finished with a total of 225 points, 30.5 points higher than second place finisher Rider University.
Corey Murphy of Monmouth took first place in the shot put with a mark of 17.42m as the Hawk's earned a total of 25 points in the event. He then won the Discus Throw with a mark of 49.99m, as the Hawks finished with 20 points in the event. Manhattan's Dennis Eriksson won the Triple Jump with a mark of 14.99m, but Monmouth captured a total of 19 points in the event. Monmouth sprinters Peter Guerriero and Bryan Sosoo finished one and two respectively, in both the 100m & 200m dash to help the Hawks win the title.
Rider University finished in second place as Johnathan Jackson took first place in the 800m run and also anchored Rider's first place finish 4x800m relay team. Iona College took the top four spots in the 5000m run, all within .20 seconds of each other.
The Men's Rookie of the Meet in field events is Brenton Foster from Manhattan College and in the track events is Peter Guerriero from Monmouth University. The Most Outstanding Performer in field events is Corey Murphy from Monmouth University and in the track events is Chartt Miller from Iona College.
Joe Compagni from Monmouth University was named MAAC Men's Coach of the Year.
