2016 MAAC MEN’S SOCCER MAJOR AWARDS ANNOUNCED

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2016 men’s soccer major award winners and All-MAAC teams, as selected by the leagues 11 head coaches.

The 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year is Eamon Whelan from Quinnipiac University. Whelan ranked second in the MAAC with 10 goals this season and was tied for the third-most points in the league with 20. The freshman also tied for the MAAC lead in game-winning goals with four this season.

The 2016 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year is Thomas Teupen from Canisius College. Teupen recorded two goals this season, both game-winners. He was named the MAAC Defensive of Player of the Week for the week of September 19th.

The 2016 Co-Goalkeepers of the Year are Eric Klenofsky from Monmouth University and Ryan Baird of Rider University.

Klenofsky ranked first in the conference with a .841 save percentage, second with a 0.87 goals against average, and was tied for fifth with four shutouts. He averaged 4.82 saves per game, which was third in the MAAC and recorded 53 saves the eighth-most in the conference. Klenofsky was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

Baird ranked fourth in the MAAC with a .797 save percentage, fourth with a 0.91 goals against average, and was tied for the second-most shutouts in the league with six. He has made 63 saves this season, the sixth-most in the conference and averaged 3.71 saves per game, the eight-most in the MAAC. Baird was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

The 2016 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year is Cameron Harr from Marist College. Harr led the MAAC with 17 goals and 35 points this season. He ranked second in the nation in goals and was tied for second in assists. Harr led the MAAC with 0.89 goals and 1.84 points per game. His four game-winning goals were tied for the league lead.

The 2016 BSN Sports MAAC Coach of the Year is Eric Da Costa of Quinnipiac University. Da Costa led his Bobcats to an 8-2 mark in conference play and 12-6 overall. The Bobcats have won four regular season conference titles in the last five years.
