QUINNIPIAC DEFEATS CANISIUS 3-1 TO ADVANCE TO THE 2016 MAAC MEN’S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

HAMDEN, CT – Quinnipiac University defeated Canisius College, 3-1, to advance to the 2016 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship Game. The Bobcats will play in the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship Game for the second time in program history.

Quinnipiac was led by sophomore forward Rashawn Dally who scored a goal and recorded an assist en route to victory.

The Bobcats took an early 1-0 lead with a goal scored by sophomore forward Matt Taylor in the 15th minute of play. Taylor found the back of the net off a loose ball in the box.

The 2016 MAAC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year, Eamon Whelan, gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead when he was able to convert on a right cross from Dally in the 20th minute.

Canisius cut Quinnipiac’s lead to 2-1 in the 53rd minute when the 2016 MAAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year, Thomas Teupen, scored on a shot from the top of the box. Teupen was assisted by junior midfielders Mathew Santos and Mo Kretschmer.

The Bobcats took a 3-1 lead in the 58th minute when Dally scored a goal off a feed from junior defender William Pustari.

Quinnipiac took a total of 16 shots, six of which were on goal. Canisius registered eight shots on the day, four were on goal.

Quinnipiac University will now face the winner of today’s second semifinal matchup between the number two seed Rider University and three seed Siena College. The 2016 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship game takes place on Sunday, November 13 at 1:00 PM at QU Soccer Field on the campus of Quinnipiac University. The game will be streamed live on MAAC.TV.
