Monmouth’s Murphy, Piiru & Rider’s Malko, Sandvig Take Home Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Chandi Piiru, Monmouth
Jr., East Orange, NJ/Union Catholic
Junior Chandi Piiru kicked off 2018 at the Wagner Invitational where she finished as the top collegiate runner in the 800 meter with a time of 2.11.87, which is now the top time in the conference. Her time qualified her for the ECAC Championships. Piiru also ran a leg of the 4x400 that finished first for the Hawks with a time of 3:55.39
Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Russell Malko, Rider
Jr.,Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central
Malko qualified for the IC4A Championships with his performance in the 500 meter run. Malko finished the event in 1:04.93, the second best in the MAAC this year. Malko also holds the MAAC top time in the 400 meter run when he ran a 49.52 at the Lehigh season opener back on December 1.
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Karoline Sandvig, Rider
Sr., West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro HS South
Sandvig had a toss of 16.84 meters in the weight throw this past weekend at the Wagner Invitational. The senior qualified for the ECAC Championships with her performance, she also holds the top weight throw in the conference with a distance of 17.47 meters back on December 9.
Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Corey Murphy, Monmouth
Yaphank, NY/Longwood
Murphy took first in the shot put with a 18.88 meter toss at the Wagner Invitational. The mark qualified the senior for the IC4A Championships and is now the top distance in the MAAC by just over two meters.
