MAAC Announces Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Honors
Women's Track Performer of the Week
Paige Chapman, Manhattan
Sr., Abingdon, MD/Harford Technical
Chapman won the 100-meter dash at the 2018 Metropolitan Championships in 11.58, breaking the Manhattan school record and earning the setting the fastest time in the MAAC so far this season. The senior also recorded a top-five performance in the 200-meter at the meet, with a 25.80.
Men's Track Performer of the Week
Russell Malko, Rider
Jr., Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central
Malko won the 400-meter with a personal best and IC4A-qualifying time of 48.18. Malko was also part of the Bronc 4x400 relay, running anchor as the Broncs won. His victories helped propel the Broncs to victory at the 12-team meet. The 48.18 in the 400-meter is the fastest time in the MAAC so far this season and is 0.52 of a second faster than second.
Women's Field Performer of the Week
Casey Sturts, Monmouth
Fifth Yr., Dorothy, NJ/ Buena Regional
Sturts won both the high jump and the pole vault at the Coach P Invitational. The New Jersey native cleared 11'11.75" (3.65m) in the pole vault and 5'5" (1.65m) in the high jump to secure the victories. The pole vault mark of 11'11.75" ties her best effort of the season, which is also the best mark in the conference. Sturts also sits third in the MAAC in the high jump.
Men's Field Performer of the Week
Darius Howe, Monmouth
Jr., Baltimore, MD/Western Tech
Howe won the triple jump at the Coach P Invitational with a mark of 47'5" (14.46m). He also placed fifth in the long jump with a jump of 23'0.5" (7.02m). Both marks qualified the junior for the IC4A Championships next month. Howe also moves into the pole position in the conference this season in both the long and triple jumps with those distances.
