Fairfield (13-7) was defeated by No. 10 Loyola (16-4), 18-2, in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Today’s first round game marked the Stags third NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2015.
 
Fairfield Notes:
  • Junior attack Taylor Mitchell scored Fairfield’s first goal of the game at the 3:51 mark of the first half. The goal was Mitchell’s 40th of the season, she was assisted by senior attack Brenna Connolly. Connolly finished the season with 42 assists, tied for fifth-most in a single-season in MAAC history. The senior registered 77 points on the season, which were tied for the fourth-most in a single-season in program history.
  • Senior attack Olivia Russell found the back of the net with 14:09 to play in the game. Russell’s goal was her 37th of the season.
  • Sophomore goalie Paulina DiFatta added to her program single-season saves recorded with nine today. She finished the season with 211 saves.
  • Fairfield totaled 23 shots, 16 ground balls, and 11 draw controls. DiFatta picked up a game-high four ground balls. Junior defender Erin Mammele won a team-high four draws.
  • Today’s meeting marked the first in history between Fairfield and Loyola.
  • The Stags are now (1-3) all-time in NCAA Tournament games.
  • Fairfield’s season-long six-game winning streak has come to an end.
  • The MAAC is (2-16) in NCAA Tournament games.
Loyola Notes:
  • The Greyhounds advance to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse second round to face either Navy or Johns Hopkins on Sunday, May 13, at noon.
  • Loyola improved to 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Eight different Greyhounds found the back of the net, seven of which scored two goals or more.
  • Livy Rosenzweig tallied a game-high six points (four goals, two assists), and picked up three ground balls. Frankie Kamely registered four points (three goals, one assist).
  • Kady Glynn made 16 saves en route to her 13th win of the season.
