Canisius College (8-9) fell to No. 18 Robert Morris University (13-4), 12-6, in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship. With the win Robert Morris advances to the first round to face No. 1 University of Maryland (12-3) on Sunday, May 13, at noon.
 
Canisius Notes:
  • 2018 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Canisius’ Connor Kearnan tallied three assists in the loss. With the three assists, Kearnan set the MAAC’s and Canisius’ single-season records for points (83) and assists (52).
  • Senior midfield Steve Coss scored a pair of goals, his 24th and 25th of the season. 2018 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship game hero, sophomore Mathieu Bossonneault tallied two goals, his 38th and 39th of the season.
  • Senior attack Ryan McKee notched his 35th goal of the season, while senior midfield Keith Pravato found the back of the net for the ninth time.
  • Senior long stick midfield Reece Eddy picked up a game-high six ground balls.
  • Canisius is now (0-3) in NCAA Tournament games, while MAAC teams are (2-15). Today’s NCAA Tournament appearance marked the first for the Griffs since they took on Loyola (Md.) in 2012.

Robert Morris Notes:
  • The Colonials recorded their first NCAA Tournament victory in their first-ever appearance.
  • Sophomore goalie Chris Reynolds earned the win and registered six saves. Reynolds got the spot-start in net, his first of the season with junior goalie Alex Heger out due to injury.
  • Robert Morris had eight different players score in the win.
  • Graduate attack Justin Mayfield tallied a game-high three goals.
