Canisius Falls to No. 14 Minnesota in 2018 NCAA Baseball Championship Minneapolis Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Canisius College (35-21) falls to No. 14 University of Minnesota (42-13), 10-1, in the 2018 NCAA Baseball Championship Minneapolis Regional. The Griffs will play Gonzaga University (32-23) in an elimination game tomorrow, June 2, at 2 PM (ET).
Canisius Notes:
- Christ Conley drove in the Griffs’ lone run with an RBI double in the top of the third inning. John Conti scored on the double. Conley went 1-4 in the game.
- Conti was the only Griff to record a multi-hit game. He went 2-4 with two singles and a run scored.
- 2018 MAAC Pitcher of the Year and Championship MVP, J.P. Stevenson took the loss. Stevenson tossed 3.1 innings, allowed seven runs, three earned, on nine hits. He struck out one and walked none in the start.
- Andrew Kneussle pitched 3.0 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and recorded one strikeout.
- Canisius is now (0-5) all-time in NCAA Tournament games.
Minnesota Notes:
- The Golden Gophers advance in the winner’s bracket of the Minneapolis Regional. Minnesota takes on UCLA, tomorrow, June 2, at 8 p.m. (ET).
- Reggie Meyer earned the win for Minnesota. He tossed 8.0 innings, surrendered one run, earned, on five hits. He struck out six and walked one in the 102-pitch effort.
- The Golden Gophers were paced by a five-run bottom of the second inning. Toby Hanson drove in a run with a double to right center field. Terrin Vavra tripled to right field, which plated a run.
- Vavra went 3-5 at the dish with three RBI. Hanson also notched three hits with the RBI and two runs scored.
- Cole McDevitt hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. He went 1-4 at the plate with the homer and two runs scored.
