Monmouth Wins Fourth Consecutive MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship

No. 1 Monmouth University (13-2-2, 10-0 MAAC) defeated No. 2 Fairfield University (11-6-3, 4-5-1) by a score of 6-0. The Hawks have won the past four MAAC titles, and five since joining the conference in 2013. Sarina Jones was named the Most Outstanding Player of the championship. The Hawks will now wait to see who they will face in the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. Monmouth Notes
- The 2019 MAAC Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year Amanda Knaub started in net for Monmouth. Knaub collected her 13th shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Niagara to advance to the Hawks to the championship game.
- Lauren Karabin notched the first goal of the game, her fourth of the season, burying a shot after collecting a rebound off the right goalpost. Lexi Palladino and Jesi Rossman were credited with assists on the goal in the 13th minute.
- Karabin collected her second goal of the game on a breakaway shot, beating the Fairfield keeper from the top of the box. Maddison Perna assisted on the goal.
- Jill Conklin netted Monmouth’s third goal in the first half with only 35 seconds remining on the clock. She scored on a free kick from Jess Johnson, heading the ball into the top of the net.
- Madie Gibson, last season’s Offensive Player of the Year and MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player, got her name on the scoresheet with Monmouth’s fourth goal of the day in the 53rd minute. Conklin collected the assist.
- The Hawks grabbed goals five and six just 33 seconds apart in the 68th minute. Goal five was put in by Palladino, unassisted. Palladino then added a helper on a goal from Gibson, her second of the day, to put the Hawks up six.
- For the Hawks, Jill Conklin, Lauren Karabin, Jess Johnson, and Sarina Jones were named to the 2019 MAAC Women’s Soccer All-Championship team. Jones was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship.
Fairfield Notes
- Sophomore keeper Aytana Muschajew started between the pipes for the Stags. Muschajew made seven saves in net.
- The Stags registered five shots throughout the game, three on net.
- The Stags had 16 different players see action in the championship game.
- Senior back Melanie Hingher, junior midfielder Gabby Diodati, and the 2019 MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year Josie Horosky were named to the 2019 MAAC Women’s Soccer All-Championship Team.
