Quinnipiac’s Young and Siena’s Pickett Win Pepsi Zero MAAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week

Cameron Young, Quinnipiac

Young scored 34.6 points per game over three contests this week, adding 22 rebounds and eight assists. The graduate guard scored a MAAC-record 55 total points, leading Quinnipiac men's basketball past Siena, 107-100, in triple overtime on Sunday at the Times Union Center. Young's 55 points are the most of any student-athlete in the NCAA so far in 2018-19, and also sets a Quinnipiac Division I program record. The graduate guard shot 15-for-24 (9-of-13 3FG) from the floor, grabbing 10 rebounds in 53+ minutes played.
 
The 55 points is the 2018-19 NCAA single-game high for points, third-most points by an NCAA Division I player in last 20 years, MAAC single-game record for points in a league game, Quinnipiac Division I record for points, Quinnipiac record for 3-pointers made, most points ever scored in a game at the Times Union Center
 
Rookie of the Week
Jalen Pickett, Siena

Pickett averaged 28.0 points and 8.5 assists during an historic two-game week. He shot an even 50-percent from the field while also averaging 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks. On Wednesday, he stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks against Iona. He capped the week by achieving arguably the greatest single-game freshman performance in MAAC history. Pickett posted the second highest single-game scoring total in Siena history with 46 points, while adding 13 assists and four steals against Quinnipiac. He shot 14-26 from the floor, 4-8 from distance, and 14-17 from the charity stripe. Pickett scored 32 of his 46 points over the final 27:39, to rally Siena back from a 20-point second half deficit in the triple overtime affair.
