Iona (17-15) is the first MAAC men’s basketball program to win four straight MAAC Championships after beating Monmouth (14-21) 81-60. Rickey McGill becomes the first MAAC men’s basketball player to win four MAAC titles.
Iona Notes
• Iona claims its 12th championship, which is the most all-time.
• The Gaels become the first No. 1 seed to win a MAAC Championship since Siena in 2010.
• Iona extends its postseason winning streak to 12 games. Their last loss came in the 2015 championship game.
• The Gaels are 19-2 in postseason play while making seven straight title game appearances. The losses were in 2014 and 2015.
• Iona’s starting five scored 79 of the 81 points. Andrija Ristanovic provided the lone bucket from a reserve.
• Asante Gist led Iona with 22 points and four assists. Gist also led Iona in the semifinal win over Siena with 22 points.
• Tajuan Agee scored 18 points (6-of-9) and pulled down seven rebounds.
• EJ Crawford added 15 points, 9-of-11 on free throws, and McGill had 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Monmouth Notes
• Diago Quinn led the Hawks with 13 points (5-of-5)—the only Hawk in double figures.
• Quinn played in his 136th career game, which is the most in Monmouth history.
• Monmouth went 5-of-24 (21%), from 3-point range.
• The Hawks are 0-2 in MAAC Championship Games.
• Monmouth held a 34-20 advantage in points in the paint.
