MAAC Announces 2019 Women’s Tennis Major Award Winners and All-MAAC Teams

Edison, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the 2019 Women’s Tennis Major Award Winners and All-MAAC Teams.

The 2019 MAAC Women’s Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year is Amanda Nowak of Fairfield University. Nowak finished with an overall record of 17-6 and finished a perfect 6-0 in MAAC play with five wins coming from the No. 1 spot and one win coming from the No. 2 spot. The freshman was also named to the All-MAAC First Team in the No. 1 singles spot. Nowak’s selections mark the second-straight year that a freshman was named both MAAC Player and Rookie of the Year.

The MAAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year is Jeff Bricker of Fairfield University. In his fifth year at the helm, Bricker guided the Stags to a 12-7 overall record, going 5-1 in MAAC play. Bricker dramatically improved the team’s production after missing the MAAC Championship last year. The Stags won 25 of 36 possible MAAC singles matches on the season, and went 12-6 on the doubles side.

The 2019 All-MAAC First Team had representatives from Fairfield and Quinnipiac University. Anna Komer and Jessica Pil of Fairfield claimed the No. 3 spot, Payton Bradley and Kamilla Nella of Quinnipiac claimed the No. 2 spot, and Fairfield’s Aina March and Nowak claimed the No.1 doubles spot. On the singles side, Quinnipiac’s Courtney Nash, Kamilla Nella, and Jennifer Lu claimed the No. 6, No. 3, and No. 2 spots. Fairfield’s Sophia Prinos, Komer, and Nowak claimed the No. 5, No. 4, and No. 1 spots.

The 2019 All-MAAC Second Team had representatives from Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Niagara University, and Siena College. The All-MAAC Second Team doubles selections were Quinnipiac’s Jennifer Lu and Layla Rodriguez in the No. 3 spot, Siena’s Dilara Spicer and Natalie Weaver in the No. 2 spot, and Marist’s Julia Gabay and Sam Galu in the No. 1 spot.

On the singles side, Marist’s Sophia Chavarria and Quinnipiac’s Rodriguez claimed the No. 6 and No. 5 spots. The No. 4 spot was tied between Niagara’s Olga Donchu and Quinnipiac’s Bradley. The No. 2 spot was collected by Andreea Peteu of Niagara. The No. 2 spot also resulted in a tie, with Fairfield’s Prinos and Siena’s Kylie Mullaney sharing the honors. The No. 1 spot on the All-MAAC Second Team was awarded to the 2018 MAAC Player of the Year, Dominique Vasile.

The 2019 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship will be held at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. Semifinal action begins Saturday, April 27 with the women’s matches opening the day at 10 a.m. and the men’s matches rounding out the day at 2:00 p.m. The finals will take place the day after, April 28, with the women’s match again beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the men’s match starting at 2:00 p.m. For more information on the 2019 MAAC Tennis Championships, visit maacsports.com/tennis.
