2019 MAAC Baseball All-MAAC Teams & Major Awards Announced
STATEN ISLAND, NY – The 2019 MAAC Baseball All-MAAC Teams and Major Award winners were announced on Tuesday evening at the league’s annual award show, which was held at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Fairfield University’s Jack Gethings was named Player of the Year. The senior led the MAAC with a .373 average, hits with 81, and triples with seven. Gethings broke the Fairfield career hits record this season after picking up career hit 264 against UMBC last weekend. The shortstop ranked in the top 10 in the MAAC in on-base percentage (.442), runs scored (43), slugging percentage (.498).
Matthew Brash of Niagara University picked up Picher of the Year honors. The junior paced the MAAC in ERA (2.43), opposing batting average (.194), and strikeouts (121). Brash finished the season with three complete games and two shutouts in 14 starts. The Kingston, Ontario native collected two MAAC Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Brash is the first Niagara pitcher to claim the award.
The Relief Pitcher of the Year went to Andrew Workman of Quinnipiac University. The senior recorded five saves and posted an 0.67 ERA during league play and pitched to a 1.14 ERA and eight saves overall during the season. Workman surrendered only six earned runs in 47.1 innings. Workman’s eight saves tied him for second in the MAAC.
Nick Cimillo from Manhattan College was the unanimous choice for Rookie of the Year. The first-year Jasper was second in the MAAC in hits (71) third in average (.345), eighth in on-base percentage (.413), and ninth in home runs (6). Cimillo led the Jaspers in average, hits, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and OPS. It is the fifth time in history a Jasper has claimed Rookie of the Year.
The BSN Sports MAAC Coach of the Year went to Matt Mazurek of Canisius College. The second-year head coach earns his first Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Golden Griffins to a share of the regular season title and the top seed in the 2019 MAAC Baseball Championship. It is the fifth time and first since 2014 that a Canisius head coach has earned Coach of the Year honors.

The 2019 MAAC Baseball gets underway on Wednesday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island, New York when No. 3 Fairfield takes on No. 6 Monmouth University. Two more games follow on Wednesday; No. 4 Marist College & No. 5 Manhattan at 3 p.m. and No. 1 Canisius takes on the lowest advancing seed at 7 p.m.
All 10 and if necessary 11 games of the championship are available on ESPN+. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at 12 p.m.
