The No. 2 seed Bobcats of Quinnipiac University (29-27) claimed its first MAAC Baseball Championship with a 6-5 win over No. 3 seed Fairfield (35-25) in 13 innings. Evan Vulgamore scored the championship-winning run in the bottom of the 13th on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
Quinnipiac Notes
• Quinnipiac punched its ticket to the 2019 NCAA Championship. The Bobcats will find out their regional location and opponents on Monday at 12 p.m. on the NCAA Selection Show, which will air on ESPNU.
• Before winning the game in the 13th, Quinnipiac stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, 11th, and the 12th innings. For the game, the Bobcats left 17 runners aboard.
• Brian Moskey, who was named MVP of the championship, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He also walked three times.
• Moskey led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run on the first pitch.
• Ian Ostberg also had two RBIs for the Bobcats.
• Colin Donnelly (6-1) came out of the bullpen and did not allow a run in 7.2 innings of relief.
• At 13 innings, this is the longest MAAC Championship Series Game. The only longer MAAC postseason game was a 15-inning contest between Monmouth University and Manhattan College at the 2014 Championship.
Fairfield Notes
• Fairfield’s pitching did not allow a run over 7.1 innings from the fifth to the 13th.
• Anthony Boselli was 3-for-6 with an RBI for the Stags.
• Giacomo Brancato (2-for-6), Mike Caruso (2-for-4), and Dylan Reynolds (2-for-5) also had multi-hit games for Fairfield.
• Five different players scored the five runs for the Stags.
• Michael Sansone pitched 4.1 innings while allowing two runs. Eli Oliphant went four innings in relief and did not allow a run.
