EDISON, NJ – For the second year in a row, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (MAAC SAAC) organized a social media campaign focusing on mental health awareness. The week-long effort was a part of MAAC SAAC’s #A11MAACMinds initiative, and ran from April 22-26, 2019.

The campaign saw each day sporting a different theme, including defining what mental health means to student-athletes, highlighting facts and statistics related to mental health issues, sharing best practices, and pledging to join the effort to break the stigma.

“For the second year in a row, student-athletes from all 11 MAAC institutions were able to use their voices and platforms on their respective campuses to bring awareness to a pressing issue - mental health," said MAAC SAAC Chair, TJ Stuart. "Through the persistence and hard work of each and every student-athlete who participated in our week long #A11MAACMinds, we continue to break the stigma surrounding mental health.”

Several MAAC institutions also hosted events on campus to increase involvement and spread awareness. Several schools sponsored green games in conjunction with sporting events, where team members wore green items to show support. Throughout the week MAAC schools also shared information on the resources available on campus where student-athletes could seek professional assistance.

During the 2017-18 academic year, MAAC SAAC established the #A11MAACMinds initiative, which represents the 11 institutions in the conference banding together to make mental health awareness a priority on each campus.
