EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced Manhattan College basketball legends Tim Cain and Sandy Gordon will be inducted into the 2019 MAAC Honor Roll. Honorees will be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 14.

Each member institution of the MAAC honors one male and one female from its basketball “family” as part of the 2019 induction class. A dinner event takes place Saturday, September 14 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize the Honor Roll inductees.

Each honoree will also be profiled in the game program for the 2020 MAAC Basketball Championships and will be featured in a video display at “The MAAC Experience.”

Tim Cain ‘85
Tim Cain graduated as the program’s all-time leading scorer and remains the lone Jasper to earn All-MAAC honors in each of his four seasons in Riverdale. Cain began his illustrious career by being named the MAAC Rookie of the Year while also collecting first team honors after averaging 15.3 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game as a freshman in 1981-82. He followed that up by notching 17.7 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore before checking in with a career-high 20.9 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game as a junior in 1983-84, being named to the All-Metropolitan First Team. Thanks to a senior campaign in which he averaged 15.5 points per game, he finished his career with a then school-record 1,872 points (currently third) on the strength of a still standing record of 776 field goals. A Sporting News All-American honorable mention honoree, Cain is also one of just three Jaspers (Keith Bullock, Luis Flores) to collect three All-MAAC First Team honors. His son John recently signed a professional contract with the Los Angeles Angels after a standout 2019 season with the Jaspers’ Baseball team, while his daughter Kate plays basketball at the University of Nebraska. His youngest son Chris will be a rising senior at Pine Bush High School.

Sandy Gordon ‘88
One of the top playmakers in school history, Sandy Gordon continues to hold the Manhattan career record with 592 assists. As a sophomore in 1985-86, Gordon averaged 7.0 points and 5.5 assists while winning MVP honors in the Loyola Invitational Tournament. As a junior in 1986-87, she handed out a still school-record 220 assists (7.3 per game) while guiding the Jaspers to 20 wins and the program’s first-ever MAAC Title and a date with Duke in the NCAA Tournament. During her junior campaign, Gordon also averaged 8.9 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game while collecting All-MAAC Second Team honors and also being named to the MAAC All-Tournament team. As a senior, Gordon earned First Team All-MAAC accolades while averaging 12.3 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.7 rebounds. She led the Jaspers to 58 wins over her four years and currently serves as the head coach of her alma mater, Ramapo High School. Gordon has also coached at the collegiate level, guiding the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights for eight seasons.
