Siena Wins 2019-20 MAAC Men’s Basketball Regular Season Title

Edison, N.J. (March 6, 2020) – Siena College secured the outright 2019-20 MAAC Men’s Basketball regular season title on Friday with an 86-72 win over Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The title is the Saints’ eighth in program history and first since 2009-10.
 
Siena (19-10, 15-5 MAAC) won its last nine games of the regular season and 12 of its last 13.  The Saints have not lost since Feb. 2 when they fell to second-seeded Saint Peter’s University on the road, 85-80. The team sealed its perfect 14-0 record at home on Wednesday night versus Niagara University.
 
In his first season as Head Coach, Carmen Maciariello led the Saints to the regular season title and the No. 1 overall seed after being voted sixth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
 
Preseason Player of the Year and reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year Jalen Pickett is averaging a team-high 15.3 points, a league-leading 6.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds for the Saints in his sophomore campaign. Junior Manny Camper is one of two players in the league averaging a double-double, with 13.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
 
The Saints will earn an opening round bye in the championship before facing the winner of No. 8 Fairfield University/No. 9 Manhattan College on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals on ESPN3.
 
The 2020 Hercules Tire MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will take place from March 10-14 in the event’s inaugural year at Atlantic City’s Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
