MAAC Announces 2019-20 Men’s Basketball All-Rookie Team
Atlantic City, N.J. (March 9, 2020) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced its 2019-20 Men’s Basketball All-Rookie Team, as voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The All-MAAC Rookie Team is made up of Saint Peter’s University’s Aaron Estrada, Daryl Banks III and Doug Edert, Marist College’s Tyler Sagl, Canisius College’s Jacco Fritz and Fairfield University’s Chris Maidoh.
Saint Peter’s headlines the All-Rookie Team with three selections, the first program in MAAC history to accomplish that feat. The trio has combined for five MAAC Rookie of the Week selections this season (Estrada – 3, Banks – 1, Edert – 1). Estrada was the only rookie to receive the nod unanimously.
The three Peacocks represent three out the team’s four leading-scorers. Estrada leads the way, averaging 8.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in only 19.1 minutes per game. The newcomers helped lead Saint Peter’s to a 14-6 conference record and the No. 2 seed in the championship.
Tyler Sagl represents Marist on the All-Rookie Team after averaging 8.6 points and shooting 80.9 percent from the line in his freshman campaign. Sagl was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 27, after averaging 20.0 points and shooting 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from three-point range on the week.
Jacco Fritz earns All-Rookie honors, averaging 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Fritz started 24 games for the Griffs this season as a true freshman. He was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on three separate occasions, tied with Saint Peter’s Fousseyni Drame and Estrada for the league-high. All three of his selections came in back-to-back-back weeks.
Fairfield’s Chris Maidoh rounds out the All-Rookie Team. Maidoh started 29 out of 30 games for the Stags, averaging 3.8 points and 4.8 rebounds.
