MAAC Esports Championships Presented by New Jersey Army National Guard Continue Over Weekend; Overwatch Added to Competition
Edison, N.J. (April 16, 2020) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) will crown three champions this weekend. The 2020 MAAC Esports Championships presented by New Jersey Army National Guard return Friday (April 17) and Saturday (April 18), with competition taking place in League of Legends, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Competition in Rocket League and SSBU are presented as part of the EGFC Season 1 from the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF). All games of the 2020 MAAC Esports Championships presented by New Jersey National Guard can be streamed live at

In addition to the three already announced MAAC Esports Championships, the MAAC is also announcing today its schedule for its fourth MAAC Esports Championship in Overwatch. Overwatch will begin its competition with opening round games taking place on Monday, April 20, with semifinal and final action being held on Friday, April 24. Marist College enters as the bracket's top seed.
Two games took place this past Monday, with Niagara University and Siena College collecting victories in the first round of the League of Legends bracket. The third seeded Purple Eagles defeated No. 6 Canisius College 2-1, the fifth seeded Saints upset No. 4 Quinnipiac 2-0. Niagara moves on to play No. 2 Saint Peter’s at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Siena will take on top seeded Marist just prior at 4:00 p.m. The winners of those two games will face off at 8:00 p.m., the winner will be crowned the 2020 League of Legends Champions.
The Rocket League Bracket will kick off Saturday’s action, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Games are scheduled for every half-hour, with the championship scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Marist enters the Rocket League bracket as the top seed and will face either No. 4 Quinnipiac or No. 5 Siena. Canisius enters as the No. 2 seed and will face either No. 3 Manhattan College or No. 6 Niagara.
The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate bracket will begin at 2:00 p.m. with No. 2 Saint Peter’s facing No. 7 Quinnipiac. Games are scheduled to begin every hour and 15 minutes, with the championship being held at 8:15 p.m. Canisius enters the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate bracket as the top seed and will receive the bracket’s only bye.
