Marist’s Van Beusekom and Monmouth’s Mills Named Pepsi Zero MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

Van Beusekom was on his way to the best season of his career, having allowed just four hits, two earned runs and three walks while compiling 14 strikeouts in five appearances. He was one of the Red Foxes’ most lethal members of the bullpen, with multiple stints in which he punched out five or more batters in as few as two innings. Van Beusekom majored in Biomedical Sciences on a Pre-Health track, looking to become a doctor in the future.

Well after the season had concluded prematurely, Monmouth senior midfielder Rachel Mills continued to earn accolades in the classroom. Mills, who recently graduated with a degree in psychology, was honored as the Monmouth University Athletic’ Kesley Award winner. The Kesley Award presented annually to the student-athlete with the highest GPA with Mills recording a perfect 4.0 in 2019-20. Additionally, she was named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll and was a member of Chi Alpha Sigma honor society. On the field, the reigning MAAC Midfielder of the Year had 22 points on 20 goals through the first eight games of the season. She also had 39 draw controls, 16 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers before the season abruptly ended. She plans to attend graduate school and return for her fifth-year in 2021.
