Edison, N.J. (May 28, 2020) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the championship dates and sites for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

“The MAAC membership recognizes in announcing its 2020-21 championship schedule that the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic poses challenges to sports schedules,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “As was noted when the MAAC Council of Presidents adopted a set of guiding principles for the Resumption of Athletic Competition, conference member schools will respond jointly to such challenges to accommodate changes to schedules including MAAC and NCAA post-season formats. The safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff will guide the conference as it seeks to reengage in athletic activities and competition.”

The 2020-21 season kicks off with the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships, which return to the Crossings of Colonie in Loudonville, New York, hosted by Siena College. The fall slate continues with the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships. Both soccer championships will be reduced to the top four teams in the conference and will have flexibility with dates, which will be chosen by the top seed. The 2020 MAAC Volleyball Championship will round out the fall, returning to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida November 19-21.

The 2021 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will kick off the new year February 10-13, followed by the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships February 20 and 21. Both championships recently extended contracts with their respective venues, keeping the championships in place throughout 2023. Swimming and Diving will return to The Burt Flickinger Athletic Center at Erie Community College in Western New York, Indoor Track and Field will return to The Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan.

The Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships are set to return to Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey March 9-13. The 2020 Championships were off to a successful start before the cancelation of the tournament due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2019-20 season saw the MAAC brand grow throughout the Atlantic City community leading up to the event. Conference members took part in the “MAAC Gives Back” initiative, visiting local elementary and high schools throughout the Atlantic City area in an effort to promote good school attendance. In addition, the MAAC trophy made appearances throughout the city over the course of the season.

2021 will also mark the second annual MAAC Esports Championships presented by New Jersey Army National Guard. The two-day event is set for March 12 and 13 in the Adrian Phillips Theater at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. The 2020 Championships were moved to an online format after being canceled due to the pandemic. Marist College won titles in League of Legends, Overwatch, and Rocket League. Siena claimed the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate title.

The spring season will begin with the Men’s and Women’s Golf and Tennis Championships the weekend of April 22. The MAAC Golf Championships return to the Disney Magnolia Golf Course in Bay Lake, Florida while the Tennis Championships return to the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. Other championships with pre-determined locations include water polo (Marist College), outdoor track and field (Rider University), rowing (Cooper River Park), and baseball (Staten Island). The MAAC Baseball Championship returns to Richmond Country Bank Ballpark in Staten Island, New York. The Ballpark serves as the home stadium for the Staten Island Yankees - Class A Short Season Affiliate of the New York Yankees.

Softball, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse will all be hosted by the conference’s top overall seed.

Tickets for all championships will be made available at a later date and will be announced though the MAAC website and social media channels.
