Niagara’s Hammond and Marist’s Wright Named Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week

Marcus Hammond, Niagara
Jr., Queens, NY/Cardozo High School
Marcus Hammond averaged a team-leading 20 points, while also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists as the Purple Eagles split a pair at Marist. Hammond, who shot 50 percent or better from the field and from the 3-point line in each game, led all scorers in both games. Hammond scored 17 points and added a team-high four rebounds in the Jan. 1 meeting. Hammond followed with 23 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field, including a season-high five 3-pointers, while grabbing six rebounds and two assists as the Purple Eagles defeated the Red Foxes on Jan. 2 to earn the season split.
Rookie of the Week
Ricardo Wright, Marist
Fr., Eustis, FL/The Villages Charter
Wright averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists this past week while shooting .533 (8-for-15) from three-point range and .833 (5-for-6) from the free-throw line in Marist's two games this week. In the Red Foxes' 63-61 victory on Jan. 1, Wright finished with 16 points and a career-high seven rebounds. He drained four three-pointers, and scored 10 points in the final 5:12. On Jan. 2, Wright set career highs with 19 points and four assists as he shot 6-for-11 from the field, 4-for-7 from three-point range, and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.
