Niagara’s Nwandu and Marist’s Wright Named Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Award Winners

Player of the Week
Kobi Nwandu, Niagara

Kobi Nwandu averaged 22.5 points per game, while shooting 52 percent, as the Purple Eagles split their two-game series with the Monmouth Hawks on Jan. 29-30. In the first game, he led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and went 7-for-8 at the charity stripe. In Niagara’s win on Jan. 30, Nwandu set a career-high in scoring with a game-high 25 points for his third straight 20-point game. His 25 points are the most by a Purple Eagle this season. He scored 10 of his 25 points from the free-throw line, which is a season-high by any Purple Eagle. He added three assists to share team-high honors while playing all 40 minutes.
 
Rookie of the Week
Ricardo Wright, Marist
Fr., Eustis, FL/The Villages Charter
Wright averaged 9.0 points and shot .400 (4-for-10) from three-point range in Marist's two games this weekend. In the Red Foxes' 55-54 triumph over Siena on Jan. 30, Wright lifted Marist to victory with two three-pointers in the final 1:26. These shots enabled Marist to erase a five-point deficit, and his three-pointer with 42.8 seconds to go provided the game's final points. Wright then tied for the team high with nine points in Marist's contest against Siena on Jan. 31.
