Monmouth vs. Rider Men’s Basketball Set to air on ESPNU to Cap 2020-21 Season
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (Feb. 20, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today that the men’s basketball matchup between Monmouth University (10-6, 10-5 MAAC) and Rider University (4-11, 4-8) on Mar. 5 will be flexed to ESPNU as part of the MAAC Wildcard Game package. The game is set to tip at 4:00 p.m. at Rider’s Alumni Gymnasium in Lawrenceville.
The matchup features a battle between two Jersey foes, their campuses separated only by an hour’s drive. Rider leads the series in all-time matchups with 28 wins to Monmouth’s 19. The last game between the two Jersey schools came back on Feb. 28, 2020, where Rider secured a 79-67 win.
Mar. 5 marks the MAAC’s last day of regular season competition for the 2020-21 season, a year in which the men’s basketball schedule has faced over 140 changes to date. Five matchups are scheduled for the final day, which could result in multiple changes in seeding for the 2021 Hercules Tires Men’s Basketball Championship.
The MAAC Wildcard Game format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for that specific date to air on ESPNU and allows the MAAC and ESPN the flexibility to showcase the best matchups as the season progresses. Future MAAC wildcard matchups will be announced at later dates.
The 2020-21 campaign concludes with the 2021 Hercules Tires MAAC Basketball Championships from Mar. 8-13 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. Stay up to date with all MAAC basketball by visiting
