Update from MAAC Sports
EDISON, N.J. (Feb. 3, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the following decisions impacting the sports of basketball, swimming and diving, and volleyball. The decisions come following meetings between the MAAC Committee on Athletic Administration (COAA) and MAAC Council of Presidents.
Swimming and Diving
Following feedback from the swimming and diving coaches and a recommendation from the MAAC Swimming and Diving Sport Committee, endorsed by the MAAC COAA, the Council of Presidents have voted to cancel the 2021 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The sport committee will begin the process of considering a virtual invitational for MAAC teams, which would be held remotely and provide student-athletes with a culmination event for a truncated pandemic related season.
Basketball
The MAAC COAA and Council of Presidents have voted to expand the 2021 Hercules Tires MAAC Basketball Championships to March 8-13 to account for additional COVID-19 safety protocols between games. Monday, March 8 will now feature both men’s and women’s matchups between the No. 6 and No. 11 seeds.
Volleyball
The MAAC COAA has voted to require that masks be worn at all times by volleyball student-athletes, coaches, and staffs. This includes all practices, regular season competition, and conference championship competition.
