Atlantic City, N.J. (March 10, 2021) - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced that Marist College’s Brian Giorgis and Saint Peter’s University Marc Mitchell are the 2020-21 Women’s Basketball “The Rock” MAAC Co-Coaches of the Year. The award is voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.

This is the eighth time Giorgis has won the award, setting a MAAC record. One of the most dominant programs in conference history, Marist women’s basketball has transformed under the leadership of Giorgis. The Red Foxes’ all-time leader in wins, Giorgis has led the program to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, five NCAA Tournament victories and a Sweet 16 appearance.

In his 19th season as head coach, Giorgis led Marist to the program’s 13th MAAC Regular Season title. The Red Foxes (15-3, 13-3 MAAC) enter the 2021 Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Championships as the number one overall seed, seeking a MAAC-leading 13th championship and the team’s first since 2014.

Mitchell is a first-time recipient of the “The Rock” MAAC Coach of the Year in just his third year as Saint Peter’s head coach. Over the course of three seasons, he’s overseen a turnaround of the Peacocks that finished their best regular season since the 2008-2009 season. Saint Peter’s also saw the selection of Taiah Thornton (First Team) and Kendrea Williams (Third Team) to the 2020-21 All-MAAC teams.

Saint Peter’s (11-14, 10-9 MAAC) enters the 2021 Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Championships as the number three seed. They have a first-round bye and will face Iona College in the quarterfinals.

Prior to his time with Saint Peter’s, Mitchell led the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women’s basketball team. Over nine season with the Devils, he became the Division III program's all-time winningest coach (187 wins), captured an unprecedented six straight Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championships, and made six consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament.
