No. 2 Alabama Pulls Away from No. 15 Iona in the Second Half to Advance in the NCAA Tournament

No. 15 Iona (12-6) kept the game close throughout but a late run from No. 2 Alabama (25-6) proved to be the difference in First Round action of the East Region. The Crimson Tide advance to play the winner of No. 7 seed University of Connecticut and No. 10 seed University of Maryland in the Round of 32 on Monday.

 Alabama Notes:
• Herbert Jones led the way for Alabama with a game high 20 points. The SEC Player of the Year chipped in with 6 rebounds and two assists in a game high 39 minutes played.
•The Crimson Tide lead the Gaels 23 to 8 in bench points. Jahvon Quinerly led the way for Alabama’s bench with 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting.
• On the glass, Alabama held a 37-25 advantage and outscored Iona 36-18 in the paint.
•The Crimson Tide shot 47.2% from the field but struggled from the free throw line going 13 of 23 and shooting 56.5% from the charity stripe.
 
Iona Notes:
• The Gaels were led by senior guard Isaiah Ross, who had a team-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds in 35 minutes played.
• Iona led the Crimson Tide 8 to 3 in blocks. Nelly Junior Joseph had four and Berrick Jeanlouis had three.
• The Gaels had 15 turnovers in the game compared to 14 from the Crimson Tide.
• Asante Gist finish the game in double figures with 16 points.
• Iona received a season high 10 minutes from walk-on Parker Weiss.
• There were 12 lead changes in the game with the game being tied twice.
 
Next Up:
 No. 2 Alabama advances to play the winner of No. 7 seed University of Connecticut and No. 10 seed University of Maryland in the Round of 32 on Monday. The Gaels finish the season at 12-6.
