EDISON, N.J. (Apr. 16, 2021) – Hunter Embury of the Marist College Men’s Lacrosse team has been voted as MAAC SAAC Vice Chair for the start of the 2021-22 academic year. Embury will serve alongside MAAC SAAC Chair Turner Dirrigl of Canisius College.

The MAAC SAAC Vice Chair will assist the MAAC SAAC Chair (Dirrigl) in all aspects of oversight related to conference SAAC operations and initiatives. Embury, a junior, will serve a two-year term.

“I am extremely honored to be elected MAAC SAAC Vice Chair by representatives from all of the conference's institutions,” noted Embury. “The conference has done a tremendous job with assisting student athletes and giving them a voice, especially in the difficult times that we have experienced over the last year or so. I would like to thank the MAAC, Turner Dirrigl, and Elizabeth Donohue, as well as Murray Coueslant and the rest of my Marist SAAC peers for their constant support throughout this process. This is an amazing opportunity to work with conference leaders in order to build upon the mission of SAAC, and I will do my absolute best to enhance the student-athlete experience for everyone within the conference.”

Embury, a current leadership subcommittee member of Marist SAAC, was named to the 2020 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse All-Academic team and the 2019-20 MAAC Academic Honor roll. In his freshman season, Embury ranked sixth in points (17) while contributing nine goals and eight assists as the Red Foxes won the 2019 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

Off the field, Embury currently assists a professor and student-run initiative to study the disparities of COVID-19 vaccine treatments. He also aids in the translation of information related to the COVID-19 vaccine from English to Spanish.

Embury studies business administration with a concentration in finance at Marist. He has maintained a 4.00 GPA and is a member of both the Dean’s Circle and Beta Gamma Sigma.
