2021 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Major Awards and All-MAAC Teams Announced
Edison, N.J. (April 28, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2020-21 Men’s Lacrosse All-MAAC Team and Major Award winners, as voted by the league’s eight coaches.
The redshirt freshman Jake Rosa of St. Bonaventure is the 2021 Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year. Rosa started in all eight games this season for the Bonnies tallying 13 goals and 19 assists and scooped eight ground balls. He also tallied 33 shots, 18 on goal. Rosa’s 32 points and 4.0 points per game led the MAAC. With his 19 assists, he had six more than the next highest total and his 2.38 assists also led the MAAC.
Monmouth’s Chris Hervada and Manhattan Brendan Krebs were named the 2021 Men’s Lacrosse Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Hervada earns his first major award after being named to the 2018 MAAC All-Rookie Team and 2019 First Team All-MAAC. In his seven games this season, Hervada caused 10 turnovers and scooped up 20 ground balls. Hervada also helped the Hawks earn a share of the regular season title and to a 5-2 record. The senior Krebs made 108 saves and averaged 13.50 saves per game and had a .581 save percentage. Krebs helped the Jaspers to a 4-4 overall record and 4-3 MAAC record and a share of regular season title.
Quinnipiac’s Dylan Donnery is the 2021 Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. The first year made six starts for the Bobcats in six games this season finding the back of the net 12 times and added one assist. Donnery registered 31 shots, 21 on goal and scooped nine ground balls, and caused two turnovers from the attack position this season.
Demitri George of Quinnipiac is the 2021 Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Year. George was the only player in the MAAC to win over 100 faceoffs this season, as he finished the season with 115. He was also the only MAAC player to have over a .700 faceoff win percentage as he ended the regular season with a .742 winning percentage
The 2021 Men’s Lacrosse Long Stick Midfielder of the Year is Detroit Mercy’s Paul Manuszak. This is Manuszak second time taking home the award after earning the honors in 2019. Manuszak appeared in six games this season, making three starts and scooped up 32 grounds balls, averaging 5.33 a game. The senior caused 11 turnovers and had one goal and added one assist.
Manhattan’s Drew Kelleher was unanimously selected at the BSN Sports 2021 Men’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year. Kelleher is in his sixth year at the helm of Jaspers and led Manhattan to a 4-4 record and a share of the regular season title, and the number one seed in the 2021 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Kelleher will be looking to guide the Jaspers to their first MAAC Title since 2002.
