Fairfield Women’s Lacrosse Draws Boston College in the Opening Round the NCAA Tournament
EDISON, N.J. (May 10, 2021) – The 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Lacrosse Champion, Fairfield University, has drawn Boston College as their opponent for the First Round of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, as announced on Sunday on the NCAA Lacrosse Selection Show. The two teams will face off in Newton, MA on Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m.
Fairfield (13-1, 10-1 MAAC), the No. 1 seed in the 2021 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship, defeated second-seeded Siena College in the championship game, 12-8, to capture the program’s third consecutive MAAC title. Caroline Mangan was selected as Championship MVP, with Diana DeVita, Kelly Horning, Elizabeth Rowe, and Maggie Reynolds were named to the MAAC All-Championship Team.
Boston College (13-3, 8-2 ACC) will make their eighth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament after reaching the semifinals of the 2021 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The fourth-seeded Eagles have had a recent run of success in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the national championship game in 2017, 2018, and 2019. This will be the second time Boston College has faced off against a MAAC representative in the NCAA Tournament, as the Eagles faced Canisius College in a First Round matchup back in 2017.
