Former MAAC Assistant Commissioner Larry Keating Passes Away
EDISON, NJ (May 26, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is deeply saddened by the passing of Larry Keating, a former Assistant Commissioner for Basketball and Football for the MAAC. Keating, 76 years old, passed away Tuesday morning in his home in Southport, N.C.
A fixture of Men’s College Basketball among athletics administrators, Keating while with the MAAC, was responsible for conference scheduling, the MAAC Basketball Tournaments, officiating, and television coordination. In 2003 he also served as the Tournament Director of the 2003 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball East Regional in Albany, N.Y.
Keating joined the MAAC in 2001 and was with the conference till 2003 when he joined the Kanas University Athletics Staff. He was with Kansas for 16 years, from 2003-19, where he served as a Senior Associate Athletic Director and as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director. Before his time with the MAAC, Keating had spent 12 years as the Athletics Director of Seton Hall.
“Larry was a good friend, mentor and colleague for over 40 years.” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “His passing is a great loss to the game of basketball that we both loved. His work with me on scheduling and MTE formation was invaluable. We mourn with his family and his many friends.”
