2021 MAAC Softball Championship Field Is Set

EDISON, N.J. (May 5, 2021) – The championship field for the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Softball Championship has been confirmed. The eight teams competing to claim this year’s MAAC title include Monmouth University, Iona College, Fairfield University, Canisius College, Siena College, Manhattan College, Rider University, Marist College.  
 
The eight-team championship will take place from May 7th to the 16th, with the Quarterfinals Round being hosted by the higher seed, and the championship round being hosted by the highest-remaining seed. The Quarterfinal Round, best of three series will take place from Friday, May 7th to Sunday, May 9th and will be hosted by No. 1 Monmouth, No. 2 Canisius, No. 3 Iona, and No. 4 Fairfield. The double elimination Championship Round will take place from Thursday, May 13 to Sunday, May 16 and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.

The No. 1 seed is Monmouth University (25-7, 25-7 MAAC) and the Hawks clinched their third-consecutive MAAC Softball Regular Season Title. Monmouth will host the No. 8 seed Marist (12-10, 12-14 MAAC). Monmouth took three of four games from Marist in the regular season. The Quarterfinals Series game times are still to be determined.
 
Quarterfinal Series #2 will feature No. 2 seed Canisius College (18-11, 22-11 MAAC) and No. 7 seed Rider University (16-18, 16-18 MAAC). This is the Golden Griffins’ first time back in the Softball Championship since 2016 and the Broncs will be looking for their first Softball Championship since 2003.
 
In the third Quarterfinal Series No. 3 seed Iona College (21-10, 21-10 MAAC) will take on No. 6 seed Manhattan College (17-13, 17-13 MAAC). The Gaels took three of four from Manhattan this season, including the last two games of the regular season in a double header on May 4, winning 7-0, 4-3 respectively.

The fourth and final Quarterfinal series has No. 4 Fairfield University (20-12, 20-12 MAAC) playing No. 5 Siena College (19-13, 19-13 MAAC) in Fairfield, CT. The two split their regular season series 2-2. This will be a rematch of the 2019 MAAC Championship Game 1, in which Siena defeated the Stags 1-0.
