NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's cross country program finished atop the table in the 2020-21 DI-AAA ADA All-Sports Standings, as announced earlier today by the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association.
Director of Iona College cross country and track & field Joe Pienta led the Maroon & Gold to a 30th consecutive MAAC Cross Country Championship in 2020-21 and a 10th place finish at the NCAA Championship. For his leadership, Pienta was honored with the USTFCCCA Robert Grieve Award, given to the best men's coach in the Northeast Region.
The Gaels are no stranger to success, taking the top spot in the DI-AAA ADA All-Sports Standings multiple times before. Iona's men's cross country earned the top spot back in 2009-10, 2010-11, 2013-14, 2015-16, and 2016-17. The women's cross country team earned the mark in 2014-15. Men's indoor track & field earned recognition in 2010-11, and the outdoor team claimed honors in 2010-11 and 2016-17.
Iona and Fairfield were the only two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schools to finish first in the All-Sports Standings. The Stags' baseball program shared the top spot with UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara.
