EDISON, NJ (Dec. 28, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today announced Fairfield University and Siena College as the host sites for the 2023 and 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championships, passed unanimously by the MAAC Committee on Athletic Administration on December 7. Fairfield will host the 2023 championship and Siena will host the 2024 championship.
“We are pleased to have both Fairfield and Siena serve as the host sites for the next two MAAC Volleyball Championships,” noted MAAC Senior Associate Commissioner/Chief Operating Officer Whitney Swab. “Both campuses will deliver a first-class tournament, offering great facilities such as the brand new Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Fairfield’s campus and the UHY Center on Siena’s campus in Loudonville, which has hosted the tournament a MAAC-leading 14 times. The campuses are also excellent geographic locations, which will deliver amenities outside of just volleyball for team’s families and fans.”
Next year’s 2023 MAAC Volleyball Championship is scheduled to be held Friday, November 17 through Sunday, November 19, 2023 at
Leo D. Mahoney Arena in Fairfield, Connecticut, hosted by Fairfield University. Leo D. Mahoney Arena, which officially opened its doors on Nov. 18, 2022, is an 85,000-square foot, 3,500-seat multi-use space at the heart of the Fairfield campus. It is the home of Fairfield Basketball and Volleyball in addition to serving as a venue for university events, and concerts. The $51 million project, which was 100 percent donor-funded, stands in the footprint of its predecessor, Alumni Hall. This will be the seventh time Fairfield serves as the host of the MAAC Volleyball Championship with 2023 being the inaugural championship at Mahoney Arena. Fairfield previously hosted the event at Alumni Hall in 2019, 2017, 2016, 2012, 2007, and 1991.
“We are thrilled to have the MAAC Volleyball Championship return to Fairfield in 2023 at the new Leo D. Mahoney Arena,” said Fairfield University Vice President for Athletics Paul Schlickmann. “It is a privilege to provide a first-class championship experience not only to our student-athletes but to those throughout the MAAC, and we look forward to welcoming our peers, friends, fans and the volleyball community to Mahoney Arena in November.”
The 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championships will be hosted by Siena College on campus at the
UHY Center in Loudonville, NY from Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024. Siena is set to serve as the MAAC Volleyball Championships host for the league-record 16th time (14 times at UHY Center and once at the Albany Capital Center), including the third time in five years in 2024. Formerly known as the Alumni Recreation Center from its opening in 1974, the facility was formerly renamed the UHY Center on Feb. 24, 2021 after UHY Advisors secured the naming rights. The 2,148-seat UHY Center serves as the home for both the Siena College Volleyball and Women's Basketball programs. A focal point of Siena's Marcelle Athletic Complex, the UHY Center was part of a $13.5 million, multi-phase enhancement to the athletic facility which began in 2016. Upgrades to the UHY Center were highlighted by an outdoors facelift, including the creation of Anthony F. Schmitz '55 Event Lobby, and new flooring and seating system featuring the addition of chair-back seating. Earlier this month, Siena installed two new state-of-the-art NEVCO video boards along with new digital scorers and media tables.
“Siena is excited and thankful for the opportunity to host the MAAC Volleyball Championships for a record 16th time in 2024,” said Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D'Argenio. “We have taken great pride in hosting successful tournaments in the past, and are looking forward to the opportunity to welcome the MAAC and the participating teams back to the UHY Center in 2024.”
