ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Mar. 11, 2022) – Top seed Fairfield University and No. 3 Manhattan College will meet in the 2022 Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Basketball Championship Final on Saturday morning at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City following Friday’s semifinals round. The title game is set for 11am and will air live on ESPNNews and ESPN+.

No. 1 Fairfield routed No. 4 Niagara, 75-38, in the first semifinal on Friday. After a tightly played first quarter, the Stags paced the next two frames, outscoring the Purple Eagles by a combined score of 34-9, putting the game out of reach. Fairfield’s duo of Lou Lopez-Senechal and Sydney Lowery scored 14 points each, with Callie Cavanaugh adding 12 points. Andrea Hernangomez pulled down 10 rebounds and Rachel Hakes handed out 12 assists in the win -- the 12 dimes by Hakes were the conference single-game high for the season. Niagara was led in the game by Kyra Grimshaw with nine points. Fairfield clinches a berth in the title game for the 11th time overall, first trip since 2012, having won a trio of MAAC Championships in 1988, 1991, and 1998.

In the second semifinal of the day, No. 3 Manhattan upended No. 2 Quinnipiac, 72-59. The Jaspers never trailed in the wire-to-wire win, and the team dominated the post, winning the rebound battle 42-29, outscoring in the paint 40-26, and posting a 14-0 second chance points advantage. Three Jaspers combined to score 56 points, with Brazil Harvey-Carr leading all-scorers with 22 points, Dee Dee Davis scoring 21 points, and Courtney Warley finishing with a double-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds. Leading the way for the Bobcats were Cur’Tiera Haywood (16) and Mikala Morris (10). The Jaspers will play in the MAAC Championship game for the sixth time in program history, seeking their fifth trophy (1987, 1990, 1996, 2003).
