POMONA, NY (May 24, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2022 Baseball All-MAAC Teams and Major Award winners, as voted by the league’s 11 coaches.
Canisius College’s Max Grant was named the 2022 MAAC Baseball Player of the Year. Grant paced the conference with 80 hits and a .400 average, which currently ranks 12
th in the NCAA this season. The Fredericton, New Brunswick native slugged eight home runs, had 46 RBI and scored 49 runs. The sophomore second basemen slashed .400/.494/.630 in over 200 plate appearances and was successful on seven of eight stolen base attempts. Grant was second in the MAAC in total bases (126) with help from his 12 doubles and five triples.
Monmouth University’s Trey Dombroski was voted the unanimous 2022 MAAC Pitcher of the Year. The southpaw earned MAAC Pitcher of the Week honors five teams this season en route to his MAAC-leading 2.63 ERA. The Manasquan, NJ native went 6-1 this season in 14 starts and 89 innings. Dombroski set Monmouth’s single-season strikeout record with 110 punchouts, which was previously held by 2012 MLB First Round Pick Pat Light. Not only was Dombroski the king of the strikeout this season, but he also allowed just 12 walks.
Peyton Consigli of Canisius College was named the 2022 MAAC Rookie of the Year and Relief Pitcher of the Year. In his freshmen season, Consigli pitched to a 2.19 ERA in 37 innings of work. The Fonthill, Ontario native went 4-2 this season and allowed only nine earned runs all year, while striking out 51 batters. Consigli averaged 10.38 strikeouts per nine innings and tallied six saves, the third most in the MAAC.
The 2022 MAAC Coach of the Year is Marist College’s Chris Tracz. In his 13
th season at the helm for the Red Foxes, the team went 29-15 overall and 17-5 in MAAC play. Tracz helped guide Marist to a conference best .298 average and a .397 on-base percentage as a team. The Red Foxes also tied for the MAAC-lead with four All-MAAC First Team selections in 2022. Between April 22 and May 15, Marist went on an 11-game winning streak. Tracz led Marist to the second seed and a first-round bye in this year’s MAAC Baseball Championships.
