EDISON, NJ (Oct. 31, 2023) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced its 2023-24 basketball television schedule, which will feature six ESPNU regular season contests. Four of the six games will be announced leading up to their scheduled dates, while two contests in mid-February have already been selected.
The MAAC ESPNU slate will feature six games from January 26 through March 7, with the stanza featuring games on four Fridays and a pair of Thursdays. The two predetermined matchups will include back-to-back days of games at reigning MAAC Champion institution Iona University on Thursday, February 15 and Friday, February 16 at the Hynes Center in New Rochelle, New York.
In regards to the four wildcard dates, any MAAC men’s basketball regular-season contest on the docket can be flexed to air on ESPNU as part of the MAAC Wildcard Package. ESPN and the MAAC will announce the wildcard game 21 days prior to the scheduled game. The wildcard format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for that specific date to air on ESPNU, giving the flexibility to showcase the best matchups as the season progresses.
The matchup on Thursday, February 15 will be a women’s basketball game that features Iona hosting Rider University with opening tip set for 6:00 p.m. 2023 MAAC Regular Season and Championship title winners, the Gaels were chosen seventh in the preseason poll and are heading into the new campaign under the direction of first year head coach Angelika Szumilo. The Broncs are led by All-MAAC senior guard Makayla Firebaugh and 17-year veteran head coach Lynn Milligan. A men’s rivalry contest is on tap for Friday, February 16 with Manhattan traveling to Iona for a 7:00 p.m. start. The conference’s New York City rivals will be going head-to-head for the first time during the regular season in this highly competitive rivalry. Iona was slated second in the preseason poll after clinching the program’s MAAC-leading 14
th championship crown in 2023. The Gaels will be led by new head coach Tobin Anderson and the preseason All-MAAC trio of Osborn Shema (1
st Team), Joel Brown (3
rd Team), and Idan Tretout (3
rd Team). For Manhattan, first year head coach John Gallagher will lead the new-look Jaspers in 2023-24.
Games airing on an ESPN network will also be available on the ESPN App with TV Everywhere credentials. All events will be available for replay on the ESPN App. All other MAAC basketball home games will air on ESPN+, the leading sports streaming service.
