MAAC Men’s Basketball Conference Slate Begins This Week

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 28, 2023) – The 2023-24 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball league slate begins this week with 11 total conference matchups from Wednesday through Sunday. The early “December” portion of the conference schedule officially tips-off tomorrow night on Wednesday, November 29 with a rematch of the 2023 MAAC Championship final.
 
The December stanza will feature all 11 MAAC men’s squads taking the court twice during the opening week of conference action.
 
League play commences tomorrow with a rematch of the last season’s championship title match, featuring Iona University hosting Marist College at the Hynes Center in New Rochelle, NY. The Gaels are currently 2-4 overall with a win in their lone contest at home this season, which came against future MAAC member and Northeast Conference favorite, Sacred Heart. The Red Foxes sit in third-place on the MAAC leaderboard with a 3-2 record and a pair of blowout victories over Patriot League members Army West Point (71-55) and Bucknell (73-49). Iona has won six straight in the series against Marist dating back to the 2019-20 season.
 
Friday, December 1 will include a full slate of contests, headlined by four of the preseason poll’s top-five teams set to battle. The highlighted game of the night will include first-place Quinnipiac University   traveling to Buffalo, NY for a matchup with second-place Canisius University. The Bobcats are the hottest team in the MAAC, owning a league-best record of 5-1, which includes three straight victories and a perfect 4-0 mark at home, while the Golden Griffins have the second-most wins behind Quinnipiac with a 4-3 record. Additionally, preseason favorites, Rider University will visit Loudonville, NY to face Siena College, which was picked fourth in the poll to start the season.
 
Opening week will conclude on Sunday, December 3 with five more games on tap. The top matchup on Sunday’s docket will be a clash between the two teams that entered the week in third-place, Marist and Manhattan College. Entering this week, both the Red Foxes and Jaspers owned 3-2 overall records.
