POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (Apr. 30, 2023) – Long Island University claims the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo Championship after defeating top seeded Wagner 13-12 in an overtime contest Sunday afternoon at Marist’s, McCann Natatorium. LIU overcame a three-goal deficit with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth period to tie the game at 11 in the final seconds of regulation. In overtime LIU would produce two goals to propel the Sharks to a 13-12 victory and the school’s first MAAC title. LIU’s win over Wagner snapped Wagner’s 100 game win streak over conference opponents.

- No. 3 LIU claims its first ever MAAC Water Polo title with its 13-12 overtime win over No. 1 Wagner.

- Carlota Alonso recorded three goals in the game to lead the Seahawks.
- Andrea Arias, Pip Nash, and Mar Navarro recorded two goals each on the day.
- Abbey Simshauser and Andrea Arias were named to the 2023 MAAC All-Championship Team
-Wagner finishes the season with an overall record of 31-6, a MAAC red division title and a share of the 2023 MAAC regular season championship.
