EDISON, NJ (Sep. 25, 2024) – The Marist College men’s squad and the Niagara University women’s unit have been selected as the favorites to repeat in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Preseason Coaches’ Polls, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Marist led the men’s poll, receiving 80 points with eight first-place votes to lead the way. In 2024, the Red Foxes snapped a 16-year drought, securing their 13
th team title and becoming the MAAC’s all-time winningest program in men’s swimming & diving history. Marist took over the lead on day two of the championship and never relinquished the lead, tallying 664 points, over 130 points more than the runner-up. The team title was the first for the Red Foxes since 2008, ending Rider University’s 11-year championship reign. Finishing second in the poll was 2024 runner-up Niagara, who earned the final first-place vote and 68 points. Coming in third place was Rider (64), followed by Fairfield University (54) and Iona University (46) to round out the league’s top five.
On the women’s side, Niagara collected a league-leading 139 points, earning nine first-place votes, to top the 12-team league. The Purple Eagles used dominating performances on the final night of the 2024 championship to win the MAAC title with a final score of 697, edging runner-up Fairfield by 62 points. It was Niagara’s second title over the past three years, and the second women’s crown in program history after winning the program’s first and only other trophy in 2022. Picked second in the poll was Fairfield with 129 points and one first-place vote, followed by Marist who garnered 126 points and the remaining two first-place votes. Canisius University (94), Iona (87) and MAAC newcomer Sacred Heart University (83) rounded out the top-half of the women’s poll.
