Tanner Thomas scored a season-high 24 points along with 11 rebounds to secure his first double-double of the season in Sacred Heart’s 99-82 victory over Canisius. He shot 71% (10-14) from the field and went 4-6 from the free throw line. He also added two assists and one steal in the victory.
Rookie of the Week
Gavin Doty, Siena
Fr., Fulton, NY, Fulton
Doty came off the bench to nearly average a double-double over three games last week, tallying 14.7 points and 9.3 rebounds while leading the Saints to a pair of victories. The freshman came up clutch down the stretch in all three contests. On Monday, he scored 16 points on 5-8 shooting while adding eight rebounds in a road victory over perennial Ivy League power Cornell. Doty was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line in the final 13 seconds of the six-point win. On Friday, he registered his first collegiate double-double with 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds vs. Manhattan. Doty scored 14 of his 19 points during the extra sessions of the double overtime win. He hit the go-ahead three late in the second overtime, and then added a second dagger triple on the next Siena possession. Doty capped the week by finishing just a point and a rebound shy of a second straight double-double with nine points and nine rebounds vs. Iona. He gave the Saints late life, registering three straight steals in the final 43 seconds, while converting a three-point play to pull Siena within a point in the last half-minute.
