Moundi’s Historic Performance for Iona and Siena’s Doty Garner Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week
Yaphet Moundi, Iona
Jr., Paris, France, Panola College (TX)

Junior forward Yaphet Moundi delivered a dominant two-game stretch, propelling the Gaels to a 1-1 week with staggering efficiency and historic production. Moundi averaged 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds while leading all MAAC players with a scorching 76.5% (13-for-17) shooting from the field and an impressive 5.5 offensive boards per game. The week began with a solid second-half performance at Manhattan, where Moundi was perfect from the field (5-for-5), scoring all 11 of his points after halftime It was just the prelude to one of the most dominant individual performances in recent Iona and MAAC history. Against Fairfield, Moundi erupted for 25 points and 20 rebounds — a feat achieved in just 25 minutes off the bench. The junior forward shot 8-for-12 from the field and went 9-for-13 from the free-throw line while wreaking havoc on the glass, securing 11 of his 20 rebounds on the offensive end. His relentless energy and efficiency fueled Iona’s victory and etched his name among the conference’s elite. Moundi became the first Iona player to grab 20 rebounds in a game since Jonathan Duck achieved the feat against Seton Hall in 1990. His performance also joins rare MAAC company—one of just 13 recorded 20/20 games in the past 29 seasons, per ESPN Stats & Info. Even more impressively, he is only the sixth MAAC player in that span to post at least 25 points and 20 rebounds, joining the likes of Rider’s Jason Thompson and Fairfield’s Darren Phillip. Moundi’s feat stands alone in one remarkable way—he is the only player among those 13 to accomplish a 20/20 performance in under 30 minutes of game time.

Rookie of the Week
Gavin Doty, Siena
Fr., Fulton, NY, Fulton

Doty averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals while shooting 56% from the field as Siena secured a hard-fought split with MAAC co-leaders Marist and Quinnipiac over the weekend. On Friday, Doty tied for the game-high lead with 19 points on 7-11 shooting while adding eight rebounds as the Saints battled the Red Foxes to a five-point finish in Poughkeepsie. Doty, who seemed highly questionable to play after suffering what appeared to be a severe injury only 39 hours earlier, returned to pour in 19 points, six rebounds, and a season-high four steals as the Saints rallied from a 13-point second half deficit to defeat the reigning MAAC Regular Season Champion, preseason favorite, and co-leader Bobcats on Sunday. Doty keyed a decisive 26-5 second run, scoring a team-high 10 of his points during the rally.
