Merrimack’s Clark and Iona’s Njie Claim Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

Adam “Budd” Clark averaged 23 points per game this week for the Warriors. He dropped 26 in the matchup with Rider and followed that performance up with a 20 point effort in a victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday. The point guard from Philly also had 13 steals, including a career-high eight on Sunday. Clark also added 10 assists and eight rebounds in two games for the Warriors this week.
 
Rookie of the Week

Freshman Adam Njie Jr. led the Gaels to two wins on their annual western New York trip, just the ninth sweep in 34 trips to Canisius and Niagara. Njie posted 13 points, eight assists and four rebounds vs. Niagara on Friday night and hit the game-winning shot, a 17-foot jumper from the elbow with .9 seconds on the clock to propel Iona to a two point win.  On Sunday vs. Canisius, Njie notched a career-best 26 points, shooting 11-for-16 (68.8%) from the field while adding three rebounds, three steals and two assists in the win. For the week, he averaged a team-best 19.5 points, 5.0 assists and 1.5 steals while also adding 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 three point field goals made in the two wins.  He shot 63.0% from the field, 50.0% from long distance and converted both free throw attempts this weekend. The 26-point and 8-assist effort matched the highest single-game performances among MAAC players this past week.
