POMONA, NY (May 21, 2025) – The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Baseball Championship resumed on Wednesday, May 21 at Clover Stadium in Pomona, NY with a trio of teams advancing. No. 3 Sacred Heart University, No. 5 Quinnipiac University and No. 7 Marist University kept its respective seasons alive with wins on Wednesday.

No. 3 Sacred Heart used a 10-run mercy rule to knock off No. 7 Marist, 14-3 in seven innings to start the day’s action. The Pioneers poured on 10 runs through the first three innings to quickly jump out to a double-digit lead. In the top of the second, Sacred Heart plated seven runs which began with a three-run dinger by Alex Ungar over the left field wall, putting the Pios up 4-0. After the homer, the next four runs were scored by way of walks in an inning that featured six total drawn walks. In the bottom of the third frame, Dante D'Amore sent a bomb 408 feet over the center field wall for a two-run HR, giving the Pioneers a daunting 10-0 lead. The Red Foxes erased the shutout in the top half of the fourth, getting a pair of runs across following a wild pitch – which scored AJ Brotz – and an RBI single by Dylan Millman, cutting the deficit to 10-2. Ungar would go yard yet again in the bottom of the fourth, this time going opposite field to the Short Porch, for a two-run homer. Leading 12-3, the Pios’ Tim McGuire pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, before a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh secured the win for Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart Notes and Notables
- All nine Sacred Heart starters contributed to the scoring party in the win, with each scoring or batting in at least one run during the drubbing of Marist.
- McGuire went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate, hitting a pair of doubles while scoring two runs and batting in two runs.
- Ungar (2-for-4) led the way in scoring, recording a game-high six RBIs, while crossing home twice, in addition to his two home runs.
- D'Amore and Zack Kovalchik each batted in two runs, while D'Amore scored two runs and Kovalchik scored one.
- Ronan Donohue was 3-for-4 on the day, and he tallied three runs.
- The Pioneers 14 runs came on 13 hits.
- Starting pitcher Charlie Costello (5-7) got the decision following 6.0 innings of action where he struck out four, gave up seven hits, and allowed the three runs.
- Sacred Heart earned its first ever MAAC postseason win in its tournament debut.
- The Pioneers advance in the winner’s bracket and have a matchup against rival No. 2 Fairfield next.
Marist Notes and Notables
- One day after recording 13 hits and 12 runs in the first round of the championship, Marist bats cooled off, cutting its hit total to seven and runs to three in the defeat.
- No Red Fox player had more than one hit and the only extra base hit came from Lewis Rodriguez home run in the fifth inning.
- Dylan Millman had the team’s other RBI.
- Marist runs were scored by Rodriguez, AJ Brotz, and Zach Donahue.
- Chris Ubner (2-1) started in the game but only lasted 1.1 innings after allowing six runs, six hits and three walks, while striking out one batter.

No. 5 Quinnipiac’s run in the championship continued with a 7-6 thrilling victory over No. 4 Siena. The game opened with three combined runs in the first two innings but hit a lull at the end of the second inning. Entering the seventh, Siena remained ahead 2-1 and the teams combined for just five hits (Siena three, Quinnipiac two). The Bobcats would end the slump in the top half of the frame when Kyle Garbowski singled to center field, driving in Cole Constable to knot the meeting at 2-2. In the top of the eighth, Quinnipiac started the inning with back-to-back doubles by Al Irizarry and Sebastian Mueller, retaking the lead at 3-2, and then added another score from an RBI single by Chris Smith to make it 4-2. Siena would respond in dramatic form in the bottom portion of the inning. The Saints would load the bases with a pair of singles and an error, with no outs recorded, ahead of Owen Pincince stepping to the plate and blasting a grand slam over the left field wall to put Siena up 6-4. Trailing by two in the ninth, Quinnipiac once again answered the call, platting three runs in the top of the ninth to claim the lead for the final time in the game. With one out and bases loaded, Quinnipiac’s Smith drew a four pitch walk to bring home the first run and cut the deficit to 6-5. The very next batter, Constable, drilled a single through the right side for two RBIs and the 7-6 lead. Siena got two hitters on in the bottom of the ninth but failed to earn the walk-off win. All three MAAC Championship games between Quinnipiac and Siena have been decided by one run.
Quinnipiac Notes and Notables
- Constable reached base four times, going 2-for-4 and being walked twice.
- He led the team with a pair of RBIs and scoring one run.
- Smith also batted in a pair, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Garbowski (2-for-4), Mueller (1-for-4), and CJ Willis (2-for-5) each platted a run and scored a run.
- Andrew Rubayo (6-1) entered the game in relief and was awarded the victory after 1.0 innings of action.
- Matt Alduino closed out the game in the ninth, earning the save, his third on the season.
- The Bobcats move on in the winner’s bracket and will battle No. 1 Rider University in their next game.
Siena Notes and Notables
- Pincince’s lone hit was the grand slam, giving him four RBIs and a run scored.
- Gavin Thorburn was 3-for-5 with a run scored.
- Jake Sparks (2-for-5) was the other Saint with a multi-hit afternoon, while also tallying a run.
- The pitcher decision went to Tyler Sausville (4-3) who came out of the pin in the eighth and gave up the final five runs.
- Starter Alistair Morin threw a season-high 120 pitches in 7.0 innings, striking out seven and only allowing one earned run.

The final game on day two of the championship was an elimination contest in which Marist ended Siena’s season with a convincing 12-2 victory. The Red Foxes struck first in the top of the first with Jason Claiborn connecting on an RBI single up the middle. Two innings later in the third, Marist tacked on two more runs by way of a two-run home run by Noel Rivera, extending the lead to 3-0. The Red Foxes put the game out of reach in the top sixth platting six runs, that propelled the lead to 9-0. Rivera led the rally with a two-run single, while the other half of the runs were walked in. A three-run eighth made the Marist advantage 12-0 but Siena was able to score a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to erase the shutout and produce the final score of 12-2.
Marist Notes and Notables
- The Red Foxes found their bats once again, compiling 12 hits and 12 runs.
- The top half of the lineup combined for 11 of the 12 hits, scored nine of the 12 runs, and accounted for nine RBIs.
- Rivera (3-for-6) had the best outing with four RBIs and three runs.
- Zach Donahue went 2-for-4 and hit a double, scored two runs, and had three RBIs.
- Brotz (2-for-3) had a pair of RBIs and scored one run.
- Claiborn hit 2-for-4 with a pair of walks, an RBI, and a run.
- Lewis Rodriguez (1-for-5) scored a run.
- Tyler Hartly (1-5) had a strong start, pitching in 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball, recording six strikeouts and giving up four hits.
- Andrew Speranza was awarded the save after pitching the final 3.0 innings of the game.
- Marist remains alive in the championship and will play out of the elimination bracket.
Siena Notes and Notables
- Siena finished with five total hits.
- The lone Saint with multiple hits was Aidan Paradine who went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
- Jake Sparks and Sean Camacho each recorded an RBI.
- Starting pitcher Noah Rodriguez (3-8) went 5.1 innings and surrender seven runs, five hits, with five strikeouts.
