Coyle Named to DI-AAA ADA Scholar Athlete Team

Men’s Basketball Senior Continues to Rack Up Academic Honors

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Basketball senior captain Brendan Coyle continues to rack up the honors. The local product from nearby Niskayuna, New York was one of just 14 players nationally to be named to the 24th Annual Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team.

"On behalf of the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association, I am proud to recognize and congratulate this year's men's and women's scholar-athlete teams, as well as those selected to receive postgraduate scholarship awards," said Division I-AAA ADA President and Director of Athletics at Seattle University, Shaney Fink. "These student-athletes exemplify excellence both in the classroom and in competition, demonstrating the dedication, discipline, and balance required to succeed at the highest level. We are honored to celebrate their achievements and support their continued success beyond their collegiate careers."

Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious annual awards. Now in its 25th year, the DI-AAA ADA membership is comprised of the 98 Division I institutions that do not sponsor football.

Criteria for the award requires nominees to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, individuals must have also reached junior academic standing at their respective institution (ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible).

Coyle becomes just the third player in Siena Baseball history to earn DI-AAA ADA Scholar Athlete Team recognition, joining Brett Bisping (2016) and Michael Haddix (2007).

Coyle continues to rack up the academic honors spanning a decorated career both on and off the court for the Green and Gold. Last month, he repeated as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. Coyle previously was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court following the 2024-25 season, and has been both a MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll selection in each year of eligibility. Coyle currently holds a stellar 3.69 cumulative GPA while majoring in finance.

On the court, Coyle played a key role in leading the Saints to the program's seventh MAAC Tournament Championship and eighth NCAA Tournament bid. He started all 35 games for the MAAC Champion Saints, averaging 8.7 points and 4.6 rebounds. Coyle scored in double figures 14 times, highlighted by three 20-point performances. He ranked eighth in the MAAC with 71 made threes, increasing his career total to 179 to move into the top-10 all-time in program history.
