POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 10, 2026) - No. 1 Marist captured its second straight MAAC Championship with a 4-0 victory over No. 3 Iona in the championship game of the 2026 MAAC Softball Championship on Sunday morning in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The Red Foxes used the long ball and dominant pitching to control the championship matchup from start to finish. Marist struck early offensively and never looked back, while the pitching staff silenced the Gaels’ bats throughout the contest to secure the shutout victory.
Marist’s offense was powered by two home runs that provided all the scoring needed in the title game. Samantha Rogers doubled to right field, to give Sienna Kunze scored to give the Red Foxes an early advantage and energize the home crowd. Later in the game, Peyton Pusey added another two-run blast as Marist extended its lead and created separation on the scoreboard.
The Red Foxes continued to apply pressure offensively with timely hits and aggressive baserunning, while the defense backed up the pitching staff with key plays in the field. Iona threatened at times throughout the game, but Marist consistently came through with crucial outs to keep the Gaels off the board.
In the circle, the Red Foxes delivered another strong postseason performance, limiting Iona’s offense and maintaining control throughout all seven innings. The shutout victory capped off another dominant tournament run for Marist.
With the win, Marist secured back-to-back MAAC Softball Championships and earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Iona finished the tournament as runner-up after advancing through the elimination bracket to reach the championship game.
