A student-athlete at Louisiana Tech in the early 1980s in both basketball and softball, Williamson (formerly Primeaux) helped the Lady Techsters to four Women’s Basketball Final Four appearances and was co-captain of the 1984 team. Louisiana Tech won the first NCAA women’s basketball national championship in 1982.
 
Williamson’s coaching career included being the head women’s volleyball coach at Louisiana Tech (1985-86), assistant women’s basketball coach at Southeastern Louisiana (1986-87), and assistant basketball (1987-91) and head softball coach at Georgia Southern (1993-94). She also spent 4 other seasons coaching high school JV girls and boys basketball.
 
From 1995 to '98, Williamson was an instructor for health and kinesiology at North Harris Montgomery County Community College. In 2001, she joined the staff at Campbell University as an adjunct instructor in the department of exercise science. She remained at Campbell until 2004, when she left to join NC State as a teaching assistant professor and chair of the Coaching Minor in the physical education department.
 
Williamson served on the officiating staffs for the Big South, Colonial Athletic, Peach Belt, South Athletic, Carolinas-Virginia Athletic, USA South and Old Dominion Athletic working three regionals at the NCAA Division II level.
 
An author of numerous publications and research abstracts in sports management, and a contributing author for Referee Magazine. Williamson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education from Louisiana Tech in 1985, followed with a Master of Science degree in health and physical education in '86, also from Louisiana Tech. Williamson received a Doctorate of Education degree in 2000 from the University of Houston.
 
Williamson has served as an independent contractor with Carr Sports, Inc., the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to assist in research projects.
 
Williamson served as the NCAA Women’s Basketball Secretary-Rules Editor from 2006-2014 and the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Coordinator of Officiating from 2011- 2014.  In addition to the MAAC, Williamson serves as the Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Officiating for the ACC, American Athletic Conference, Atlantic 10, Big East, Big South, CAA, Ivy League, and Southern Conference. Williamson also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Sport Officials.
 
Debbie is the wife of Stan Williamson, Director of Athletics for the University of West Alabama and mother of Dr. Courtney Williamson Matthews, Mark and Nathan Williamson.
