Paul Tamberino began serving at the Coordinate of Soccer Officials for the MAAC in 2014.
Tamberino has an extensive career in soccer officiating which spans over 40 years as an official and administrator. Some of Tamberino’s highlights as an official have been a member of FIFA Assistant Referees where he worked the World Cup Qualifiers in Central America and South Korea, the U-17 World cup in New Zealand, as well as, Olympic Qualifiers in the CONCACAF region. Tamberino has been a referee since the inception of Major League Soccer from 1996-2001 where he won four consecutive Referee of the Year Awards; 1998-2001.
His collegiate experience is just as extensive working many collegiate games and postseason NCAA play including a Division I and Division III final.
After retiring from officiating in 2001, Tamberino became the Manager of Assignment and Assessment for US Soccer where he oversaw the assignment and assessment process for the professional leagues in the USA. Shortly thereafter, he became the Director of Referees for US Soccer where he supervised the entire referee program of US Soccer.
After leaving US Soccer, he became Director of Competition for MLS and worked closely with officiating in the professional league.
In addition to being the Coordinator of Officials for the MAAC, he also coordinates officials for the ACC, Big East, Ivy, Patriot and the PAC.
Tamberino current sits as President of the Elite College Soccer Referees where the sole purpose is to improve college officiating.
